We retire our hens when the are between 18 and 24 months old. Though a just over the peak for egg production on our farm they make excellent family layers. Get in touch for 2017 availability and pricing.

The hens that are not sold are processed on farm and sold as stew birds for delicious chicken bone broth. As pointed out by the Weston A Price Foundation , “Rich homemade chicken broths help cure colds. Stock contains minerals in a form the body can absorb easily—not just calcium but also magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sulfur and trace minerals….”

Our stew hens are pastured and Certified Organic  (VOF) . We choose breeds that produce a 3.5 to 4.5 pound stew hen which will cook out to 3 or 4 quarts of broth.  At a price of $3.00 a pound you can’t go wrong! We are currently taking orders for 2017. Email or call us for ordering.

Nothing like a hot cup of home made chicken broth to get you through a Vermont winter.
