Vermont pastured and certified organic chicken – raised and processed on our farm!
Our pastured meat bird, the Freedom Rangers, are a cross between the fast growing CornishX meat bird (the typical white meat chicken) and an older heritage breed (such as the Rhode Island Red).
The chicks are purchased off farm from a hatchery in Pennsylvania, arriving on Doolittle Farm within 3 days of their hatch. They are placed on pasture at 4 weeks, supplemented with a VT/NY mix of organic grains and processed on farm between 10 and 13 weeks.
Though their grazing habits are not as aggressive as the Doolittle Chickens, we feel they are a nice compromise to the large breasted Cornish. They also meet the Label Rouge genetic color requirements and taste expectations. We grow a limited amount of these birds each year, so if you are interested in stocking your freezer place your orders in early spring!
